Q&A – Digital, Cricut, and Diecutting Machines (1/2010)
Questions answered: What tips do you have for Photoshop? Do you do hybrid scrapbooking or cardmaking? What cardstock do you print on? Are you going to design more SVG files? Have you ever used Inkscape? Is a Cricut Expression a good investment? When I open SVG files in SCAL nothing happens? Does using SCAL void the warranty on your Cricut? Have you ever used a Making Memories Slice? Do you use your Sizzix Big Shot often? Would you recommend it? Do you ever use Spellbinders dies for Cuttlebug folders? What is your favorite die-cutting machine (besides Cricut)? Photoshop tutorials by Sande: www.twopeasinabucket.com

I saw here on youtube that the MM people are releasing a magnetic mat and thing that slides over your slice to make it adhere magnettically. You might want to purchase one of those if you’ve already invested in your slice and design cartridges (or discs I don’t know what they’re called.) I’m all Cricut and just got SCAL 2 and am LOVING IT!

rockdriver9, I so agree with you about the Slice, I actually bought one and several cards and it turned out to be one of the worst buys ever – I can’t beleive what MM are thinking when the put this on the market. Great Idea – crap product!

SVG = Scalable Vector Graphic. It’s a file type that many different vector-based programs (Adobe Illustrator, etc) can open. A lot of scrapbook designers create SVG files and sell them on the internet for people to use with digital cutting machines.

I have the gazelle cutter by Bosskut… it’s everything all the other cutters are and MORE, Plus it cuts 12×12, and can do embossing, etching, and stamp cutting, plus paper piercing of any design. I plan to get the rhinestone add on program later with the new funtime!! (I’m loving it!) The best part is, it’s VERY cost effective, I got mine on Ebay! I love it…

Thanks for the Two Peas info on Photoshop! As for the Slice—I’ve wanted one but so far haven’t been able to convince myself to get one with all of the issues I’ve heard with them. It’s a shame that the best MM can do is to tell their customers to hit the side of the machine really really hard to get it working again. Somehow, with that kind of a solution, I can find 149 other ways to spend 149 bucks. Too bad the quality just isn’t there because I’ve really wanted one of these machines.
